Orange Baboon Tarantula (Pterinochilus Murinus)

This stunning species of old world tarantula is often referred to by other names in the hobby, such as: Orange bitey thing, pterror, OBT or Mombassa golden starburst tarantula. It's a beautiful spider with a serious attitude.

Not much decor is required as they are heavy web-spinners and will engulf everything in the enclosure very quickly.

As the nickname Orange bitey thing (OBT), this species is not for handling under any circumstances.

Enclosure: This is an opportunistic burrower. As a spiderling, I would use an enclosure that would allow at least three 3" of substrate for burrowing. As an adult an enclosure that will allow at least 4" of substrate will be suitable, a bark hide will also be appreciated.

Night Temperature a drop to 20-24C

Humidity: 40-65%

Diet: While some owners are able to trick their Usambara orange baboon to eat dead food by moving it around to appear alive, most will only eat live prey. The Usambara baboon eats crickets, cockroaches, pinkie mice, grasshoppers and beetles etc.. They require fresh water daily.

Aggressive: (1/beginner, 10/expert): 8.

Life Span: Male 5-8 years, Female 15-20 years
